Make friends with your serger! Learn to do more with it than you ever expected while building the basic skills needed for smooth, successful serging.

This four-class series gives you a solid foundation to build upon as you become more comfortable with your machine. Along the way, you will learn useful tips and tricks, experiment with different stitches and threads, and discover just how versatile a serger can be.

You will also create a Serger Sample Book showing your stitch settings, giving you a handy reference when you want to return to those techniques in future projects.

  • Apply a 3-thread overlock and master a rolled-edge hem
  • Apply a 4-thread overlock and explore differential feed settings

Week 1 • Handkerchief Bag

  • Cut three 16" squares of cotton fabric OR three 12" squares

Week 2 • Fleece Coverlet

  • 1 to 1 1/4 yards of fleece fabric
  • 2 additional cones of stretch thread

Week 3 • Table Runner

  • 14 strips of cotton fabric, each 18" long x 5" wide
  • 7 pieces of low-loft batting, each 18" x 5"
  • 2 cones of stretch thread

Week 4 • Flatlock & Quilt As You Go

  • Scraps of knit fabric
  • Scraps of woven fabric
  • Batting scraps
  • No specific project is required for Week 4
