Blue Onion Quilt Class

A one-block wonder that lets your wild and wonderful prints shine.

This project is great for those wild and wonderful prints you have been saving. The Oval Ruler makes cutting a breeze, the curves are gentle and easy to sew, and there are no matching seams to worry about. You will get lots of impact from this one simple block.

In class

Techniques you will learn

  • How to choose fabrics for maximum contrast and impact
  • How to use the Oval Ruler for accurate cutting
  • How to sew smooth, gentle curves
Before class

Pre-class homework

  • Cut a 14 inch strip from each fabric you plan to use
  • From each strip, cut three rectangles measuring 12.5 inch x 14 inch
Supplies and fabric

Supplies

  • Sewing machine with 1/4 inch foot
  • 45mm rotary cutter with a new sharp blade
  • Rotary cutting mat
  • 6 inch x 12 inch (approximately) ruler
  • Sewing supplies (pins, seam ripper, etc.)
  • Clips to organize your blocks
  • Lunch

Fabric Requirements

  • 3/8 yard cuts of 12 different coordinating but contrasting fabrics
  • If you are using graphic prints, plan for about half of the fabrics to read as solid
