One Block Wonder Quilt

Turn a bold large print into a kaleidoscope of hexagons you design yourself.

Skill level: Advanced beginner — students must have previous quilting experience.

The One Block Wonder finished quilt is truly a “wonder”ful surprise! You’ll take a “blowsy” large print fabric with little background space and transform it into a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of hexagon shapes. If you like to design, this is the class for you — you’ll have the freedom to design the blocks and the final layout of your quilt top.

Techniques you will learn

Sew precise 1/4 inch seams
Learn to cut and align the repeating fabric pattern
Cut, design, layer, and sew the hexagon shapes
Finish with a border to complete the quilt top

What to bring

Equipment

Sewing machine, 1/4 inch foot, power cord, foot pedal, manual
Thread, needles, bobbins
Basic sewing supplies: scissors, flat pins (A Must), seam ripper, thread clippers, marking pen/pencil/chalk, hand needle and thread
Rotary cutter with a new blade (60mm works best)
Cutting mat (small mat or rotating mat)
Quilt ruler and a 6 inch ruler
60-degree triangle
Travel iron and small pressing mat
Cell phone to take pictures

Supplies

Large print fabric with minimal background that has 6 repeats: 18–24 inches + 1/2 yard
Border fabric (optional)
Flat pins
One Block Wonder Book — $25
