Judie Rothermel – Designer

Celebrated for her visionary contributions to reproduction fabrics, Judie Rothermel has been a beloved figure in the quilting world since her debut collection with Marcus Fabrics in 1987. Best known for her iconic Aunt Grace 1930s prints and rich Civil War-era reproductions, Judie has spent decades honoring the past while subtly refreshing it for today’s quilter.

Her work is deeply rooted in a passion for antique textiles, a journey that began in the 1970s with her husband Bob as they collected vintage quilts, tops, and textiles from across the country. In 1976, they opened The Quilt Shoppe in Canton, Ohio—a home for their collection and a source of inspiration for Judie’s future fabric lines.

Judie’s designs are renowned for their historical accuracy and soft, muted palettes drawn from 19th-century quilts, particularly the earthy browns, rosy pinks, smoky blues, and “dirty” purples of the 1850–1865 period. Her love of miniature quilts and appliqué shines through in every detail, reflecting her skill in hand piecing and hand quilting.

With several books to her name and decades of fabric collections that tell beautiful, historically rich stories, Judie Rothermel remains a trusted favorite among quilters who appreciate tradition, craftsmanship, and timeless style.
